The Covenant Framework

Three covenants organize how Scripture's covenants are understood theologically: an eternal covenant among the persons of the Trinity, and two historical covenants — works and grace — through which God relates to mankind.

Covenant of Redemption
The eternal agreement between the Father and the Son to accomplish the redemption of a people.

Covenant of Works
God's covenant with Adam in the garden, promising life on condition of perfect obedience.

God's covenant to save sinners through faith in Christ, revealed progressively after the fall and formally enacted in the New Covenant.
